About the Delta Beltas
Sunny Boy Summerson is never content with just one instrument so plays not only jaw-dropping harmonica but also slide guitar, acoustic guitar, dobro, ukulele, various percussion instruments and could probably make a decent sound from a piece of tracing paper and a comb. For years he was immersed in the British blues scene, playing regularly at the Marquee in London, before moving to the East of England around 20 years ago.
Influenced by harmonica player Sonny Boy Williamson, he supported various bands including John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers and has continually played in various bands and with many blues musicians.
Memphis Annie comes from the world of Bluegrass but has now joined the 'dark side'!
Annie writes songs and has performed solo as well as with various groups such as The Bluebirds - a comedy double act and The Darling Coreys, an all-female Old Time & Bluegrass band. She has playing at many music festivals in the UK and supported The Alabama 3 at The Waterfront Norwich.
Annie plays electric and double bass, ukulele and sings lead and harmonies, influenced by female blues heroines such as Memphis Minnie and Bessie Smith.
Ray Bowden's percussion style is influenced mainly by the rhythms of Louisiana and New Orleans, including Jazz and early R&B, blues, cajun, and swamp pop (which is a wonderful mix of country and New Orleans R&B). In fact, Ray has performed many gigs in New Orleans, at the French Quarter Festival, Preservation Hall, and also street parades, as well as within the UK and European jazz clubs and blues festivals. In his previous life, he travelled Europe for many years as a stage hand for a Rock n Roll tour production company, with many famous names such as Elton John, Bob Dylan, Shania Twain and many more.
We are thrilled that Ray has joined the Delta Beltas and we say...
"It don't mean a thing, if Ray can't make it swing!"
